Lion's Den: Live Music in New York City

Open since 1990, Lion's Den is a music club located in Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan near the New York University community. It's one of the long running music venues in New York City. As Citysearch puts it, "the club's elongated space gives the crowd room to move between the chatty atmosphere around the bar and the quiet surrounding the stage. With a killer sound system and an eclectic roster ...a great place to catch up-and-coming bands with big hometown followings before they move on to bigger clubs." AOL City Guide’s editors say “The two things about the Lion’s Den that remain consistent are its impressive array of bands and the side-burned, sneaker-wearing throng of twenty-somethings milling around outside its doors. Just beyond this defensive perimeter and the surly bouncer, however, you’ll find a dark-but- welcoming, 400-capacity concert hall that has hosted some of the best up-and-coming alt-rock,jam, and funk bands in the business. The club prides itself on booking diverse acts from all over the country. Just a stone’s throw from NYU, the Lion’s Den does a good job of catering to its college demographic.”

In the summer of 2007, Lion’s Den underwent massive renovations. The club now bears little resemblance to its former self. Everything is new including the walls, the floors, the bar, the bathrooms, the entrance, the stage (which was 18’ W x 12’ D x 24” H and is now 20’ W x 20’ D x 32” H), a brand new LED lighting system, and a state of the art Meyer Sound PA system.
